The Do's and Don'ts of Exfoliating

The Do's and Don'ts of Exfoliating

"Your body is your temple" or so we are told all the time. But how do we take care of this
temple? Is a long bath simply with soap enough? Wrong. People, it's time to up your game.
It's time to give yourself as well as your body a royal treatment on an everyday basis. Why
leave exfoliating until the summer when you can do it in all seasons to keep your skin
glowing, healthy and at the same time, your mind refreshed? If it's your first time taking up
this ritual, there must be some things you must keep in your mind and that's exactly what we plan on guiding you ahead through.
Benefits of Exfoliation? Numerous. Exfoliating like you mean it and with proper care can help you overcome many skin problems and enhance its natural appearance. Furthermore, it saves you a lot of money on follow-up treatment products! Exfoliating, in my personal experience, has been the best form of prevention that also helps you feel fresh and new all the time. But exfoliating, as easy as it may sound– may not always be so! As annoying as it sounds, wrongly exfoliating your skin can bring terrible results. However, we have your back! Here are some's and Don'ts of Exfoliating that you must include in your skincare ritual!

Do's of Exfoliation

1. Maintain Regularity
Don't wait till summer to exfoliate your skin even if a lot of blogs push you to believe that
exfoliation is only done for showing off your skin in summer! While that is a great
motivation, it's not enough. Make it a point to exfoliate your skin twice a week to keep your skin naturally radiating, without applying any product.

2. Scrub Gently
Since exfoliating requires a certain amount of pressure, make sure you don't overdo it and
end up causing inflammation on your skin. Remember, exfoliation is for loving the skin and
not simply cleaning it. Make sure to scrub gently, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin. Even if your skin is not dry, scrubbing should be gentle. Instead of increasing the pressure over one time, ensure that you exfoliate more frequently.

3. Follow a preparatory skin routine before exfoliation
Exfoliating is not a one-step method, it never has been. Feel free to make a few preparations
like a quick oily massage or maybe even use some moisturising shower gels. This will help you scrub easier without much effort and avoid any chances of redness that may be caused after exfoliation.

4. Moisturise your skin after Exfoliating
While exfoliating is treated as an easy process, what many often forget is that it is not limited to just a bath. After exfoliating, you must always moisturise your skin, preferably with
sunscreen. Exfoliation dehydrates your skin and applying moisturiser right after is the right
way to replenish the lost water. This reduces any chances of probable inflammation that may arise from possible aggressive scrubbing.

5. Use healthy exfoliating products
When it comes to skincare, making use of the right products is extremely useful. One wrong product can invite 10 new skin problems. Thus, you must know your
skin and use products that will not adversely harm you. To help you choose better, one of the best exfoliating products in the market is Tatha's Carotene & Gold Dust Face Scrub, which has gold dust. It draws out impurities, unclogs pores and removes dry, dead cells from the surface of the skin. Meaning, it helps remove impurities rights from the roots.

6. Stop using products that cause any form of irritation. If you feel the products are adversely affecting you or if the products are even slightly irritating your skin, stop their usage. Ensure taking the right steps and all medical care to treat your skin against any possible damage.

Don'ts of Exfoliation

1. Don't over-exfoliate
While maintaining regularity is one thing, make sure that you do not over-exfoliate your skin. Do not exfoliate every day since it can cause severe inflammation. Limit exfoliation to up to 1 to 2 times a week and not more. Over-exfoliating your skin can result in severe injuries and even leave bruises.

2. Prioritise healing of irritated skin
In case your skin has any sort of irritation, avoid exfoliation of any kind. An aggressive form
of cleaning can immediately escalate the irritation. Ensure that you resume exfoliation after
your skin has healed or after your medical supervisor (if any) advises you.

3. Avoid exfoliation immediately after laser treatment
Heavy treatment such as laser already puts a lot of pressure on the skin and needs to be
taken care of. Exfoliation right after such heavy procedures can lead to skin problems.

4. Do not go sun-bathing after Exfoliation
Since exfoliation is a dehydrating process, going under the sun, specifically to sunbathe for hours is never recommended. Even with moisturiser or sunscreen, the skin will not be able to retain all the water and protect itself from the sun's rays at the same time. To avoid any anomalies from such a situation, sunbathing after exfoliation is strictly avoided.

5. Do not exfoliate dry skin
It is always recommended to dampen your skin before you exfoliate it. Even if you don't use exaggerated products to prepare yourself for exfoliation, ensure that when you do exfoliate, your skin is not completely dry and is at least wet enough to scrub.
With the above dos and Don'ts of Exfoliation, we hope you can find your way into the
process and add Exfoliation to your ritual of skin care. Given you follow the instructions and avoid the don'ts, you'll soon find your skin radiating and your lifestyle glowing with
satisfaction! Happy exfoliating, readers!
