Let`s start with pampering our Skin for Summer

Summer is slowly on the horizon. The days will soon get warmer, and longer. Before we know it, it’ll be time for shorts, dresses, tank tops and sandals. But is our skin ready for the warm and humid weather of summer?

Before the onset of summer let`s contemplate how we can make our skin summer ready. As we experience the transition of the seasons, there are certain steps we need to take to ensure our skin will be ready for the dramatic weather that we’re in store for once summer arrives.

Just as we switch our clothes when the temperatures rise, we can also switch our skin-care routine to include changing our facial cleanser, moisturizer, and face mask routines.

Let`s start with pampering our Skin for Summer

  • Exfoliate

Our skin has spent weeks and even months hibernating under warm garments. Our skin is now in dire need of exfoliating. Let`s start using a loofah or grainy scrub to help our skin be restored to a smoother state. Scrub all over the skin using gentle, circular motions. Do this twice a week. This will eliminate pore clogging and dead skin cells.

Let us invest in an exfoliating scrub that uses all-natural ingredients, such as salt, sugar or walnut It is best to apply the exfoliating scrub all over the face and body while in the shower. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub on the face and neck.

Let`s continue this routine throughout the summer, as this is especially useful to rid the skin of sunscreen and oil. An added plus of exfoliating is that it makes our skin more receptive to moisturizer.

  • Moisturize Heavily

Just as we become thirstier during warmer weather, our skin does as well. Moisturize in the morning and again at night as we approach summer. By using plentiful amounts of moisturizer, our skin will appear fresher.

We will probably need to use a richer cream to ensure that our skin stays adequately hydrated. A moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid and aloe Vera water will do well for our skin, providing long-lasting hydration.

Adding moisturizer after exfoliation will give our skin a natural softness in texture. It also locks in moisture.

  • Cleanse Morning and Night

Summer can bring its share of humidity. This can leave our skin feeling and looking greasy. Using a facial cleanser will help rid the surface of our skin of dirt, oils, and impurities. It`s best done both after we wake up in the morning and before we turn in at night.

  • Add Face Mask to Skin-Care Routine

Our complexion can appear overly oily simply from the accumulation of makeup, dirt, impurities and excess oils. A face mask will work to extract the build-up of impurities, dirt, and oils and diminish the appearance of excess shine.

  • Protect Skin from the Sun

As the sun is stronger, it is important that we take sun protection measures. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) suggests using broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 or higher.

It is best to reapply broad-spectrum sunscreen every couple of hours, and right after swimming or sweating. At the same time limit time out in the sun, particularly between the hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the sun’s ultraviolet rays are the strongest.

  • Scale Back on the Makeup

If there is any time of year to go lighter on the makeup, it is the summer. For example, consider using a luminous, lightweight cream in place of foundation. The cream should smooth our skin’s texture and correct the appearance of our skin, producing an even complexion.

Our makeup should also hydrate and hide the skin’s imperfections.

  • Be Smarter About Showering

To avoid excessive skin dryness, short showers are recommended. Long, hot showers tend to be very drying for the skin, opt to switch to lukewarm water and finish the shower with a cool rinse to close pores and leave the skin appearing and feeling ultra-smooth.

  • Treat Feet to a Pedicure

With sandal season quickly approaching, our feet are about to be more exposed. Let`s pamper ourselves by scheduling an appointment at our salon for a pedicure. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the foot massage. No time to head to the salon? Try buffing a gentle body scrub into the feet, rinse, and follow up with the nail polish.
